The International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases(ICEID) was first convened in 1998. The conference is held every 2–3 years and brings together more than 1500 public health professionals from around the world to encourage the exchange of the latest information on issues affecting the emergence, spread, and control of infectious diseases.

The 11th International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases (ICEID) was held on August 7–10, 2022, at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta hotel in Atlanta. The program included plenary and panel sessions focusing on emerging and re-emerging infections. The major topics included the current work on surveillance, epidemiology, research, communication and training, bioterrorism, and prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases, across the globe.

Kenya Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP-K), in collaboration with the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), conducted a baseline survey on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene(WASH) in 2021. An abstract on the same-titled “Implementation of a National-Level Baseline Capacity Review for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Related Enteric Diseases Kenya, 2021” was accepted to the 11th ICEID conference.

Nassoro Mwanyalu and Dr. Fred Ouma, of the Advanced level cohort 17 and 16 respectively, attended the four days conference. They were accompanied by Dr. Maurice Owiny, a member of the faculty. The team presented the poster titled “Implementation of a National-Level Baseline Capacity Review for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Related Enteric Diseases Kenya, 2021”. The poster was under the topic Waterborne Diseases and Hand Hygiene.
