RESPONSE TO OUTBREAK OF ACUTE RESPIRATORY ILLNESS IN MOMBASA COUNTY, APRIL 2024

In response to this alarming situation, the Mombasa County Department of Health swiftly requested support from the National government to address the outbreak. Consequently, the Ministry of Health mobilized a team of experts from the Kenya Field Epidemiology Training Program (K-FETP) and Disease Surveillance and Response (DDSR) to collaborate with the county investigation team and provide technical assistance in investigating the outbreak.
The objectives of the investigations included:
- Determine the magnitude of the respiratory infection outbreak
- Identify the drivers contributing to the acute respiratory infections and associated mortalities
- Assess the case management protocols and treatment outcomes
- Implement preventive and control measures to curb the spread of respiratory infections
