AFENET Board of Directors Meeting in Kampala

AFENET Board of Directors and Board subcommittee members participated in a meeting from 18 – 21 February 2019 in Kampala, Uganda. The meeting held at the Kampala Serena Hotel was chaired by the Prof Tshimanga Mufuta, AFENET Board Chair and Program Director Zimbabwe Field Epidemiology Training Program.

The AFENET Board holds four statutory meeting annually to perform its oversight role over management This particular meeting reviewed the progress of the AFENET Strategic plan year one (2017/2018) of the 2017 - 2022 plan. Dr Chima Ohuabunwo the Executive Director made a presentation on the operations and achievements in the first year. The 4 subcommittee of the Board also made presentations that covered general operations of the committee and proposals for consideration by the Board. The 4 Subcommittees are Finance, Audit and Risk Management committee, Policy Advocacy and Resource Mobilization committee, Quality Assurance, Monitoring and Evaluation committee and Human Resource and Program Implementation committee.

Some of the key discussions were, the review of the top 10 risks of AFENET’s financial report of the last AFENET Conference and Ministerial Round Table Resolutions (MRT) held in, Mozambique in November 2018.

The Board of Directors is comprised of representatives of Program Directors from different countries, Key stakeholders and an eminent member of the Public Health fraternity. The current Members of the Board are Prof Mufuta Tshimanga from Zimbabwe (Chairman), Dr Kebela Ilunga representing DRC, Dr Cynthia Sema from Mozambique, Dr Ernest Kenu from Ghana, Dr Elizabeth Ekirapa from Uganda, Dr Peter Nsubuga from USA and Mr. Moses Segawa from Sebalu and Lule company Advocates The Senior Management Team who are always available during the Board week are: Dr Simon Antara who is the Director Programs, Mr. Christopher Tanui is the Director Programs, Ms. Agnes Kiggundu is the Director Finance and Mr. Bwakura Muchengeti is the Director Audit and Risk Management.
