CORE Group convenes global community health professionals to share knowledge, evidence, and best practices, and then translates these into the real world with a direct impact. Recently, and following weeks of a voting exercise that was open to CORE Group members and the International Community Health Network, CORE Group announced the 2022 award winners for the Dory Storms Child Survival Award and Community Health Champion Award.

Dr. Salim Hussein, a graduate of cohort 2 of the IMPACT Masters program in Kenya, was recognized as the 2022 Community Health Champion Award Winner by CORE Group. Dr. Salim was awarded due to his work as the Head of the Department of Public Health Care under the Ministry of health in Kenya. He leads teams of health professionals in the country to steer the implementation of public healthcare in Kenya. This involves leading in the formulation and development of policies, guidelines and standards in public health care, steering the provision of capacity building and technical assistance to counties to better handle public health needs that are much needed, especially in the COVID-19 pandemic and post-pandemic era.

The Community Health Champion Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a long-lasting and direct impact on improving the health and well-being of their community through their leadership, passion, and strategic vision for a better future .In celebrating 25 years of collaboration in advancing community health worldwide, CORE Group will honour Dr. Husseing for his impactful work in global health at the Global Health Practitioner Conference in October 2022.
